Welcome to the Fall?

Today is a beautiful day! Crisp mornings, changing leaves, football & hot chili by the fire...which all serve to welcome in a new season we call “Fall”. This time of year is so wonderful, and reminds me that we are no longer living on the surface of the sun as we did this summer. It’s also a reminder that many things go into dormancy (like my grass & flowers), or they simply die altogether (leaves on the trees).

As I’ve journeyed through the scriptures the past few months with our Trek-Xers, I have been so reminded of the seriousness of the “Fall” of man. How at that very point, many things died with such absolute completeness, never to return until Christ returns. Sin in the garden plunged mankind into deep separation and isolation from a perfect relationship with God. It ruptured the God-created order of the universe and birthed a fatal cancer that is still plaguing the human race. It’s called sin! A topic that many pastors, including Joel O’steen himself refuses to preach. But that sin, is what makes Christ’s coming in the flesh such incredible news!! If he came just to help us live our best life now, then he is nothing more than a motivational guru or personal fitness trainer. However, He came to destroy the works of the devil, and set captives free from the bondage of sin and the curse handed down to us from our original parents in the garden...because SIN IS REAL. Sin kills, it steals, and it destroys our lives.

We see it in the more than 50% of marriages that end in divorce in America. It’s why 2 out of 3 students grow up in America without a dad in the home. It’s why we have gated communities, locks on the doors of our homes & cars, and why we have passwords on our computers. It what makes the evening news, and why bad things happen to supposed good people. It’s what keeps entire countries, towns, and villages around the world in grinding poverty. It’s even why we wear clothes. It’s all around us, yet we grow very comfortable with our sin. We manage it. We embrace it. We make excuses for it.

However, our God is greater than all our sin and offers freedom from it’s condemning effect, as well as it’s grip upon our very lives. It is also why we as believer’s and true disciples of Christ must proclaim the Gospel to the nations, bringing light to dark places, and offering the Gospel to those held captive by sin. We are His ambassadors.

Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother. (1John 3:7-10)

I pray that we may be marked for Christ as the children of God, throwing off everything and the sin that so easily entangles, so we can live unashamed lives for the Name of Christ...and ultimately be the bearer of good news. That Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God, who has come to set men free and destroy the works of the devil. Sin has lost it’s power, death has lost it’s sting!

I pray we all evaluate our lives as the psalmist did when he said,

"Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting."

So, this Fall...enjoy the changing of the seasons like I plan to, but I pray it reminds us all of a bigger theme in our world. Man has fallen, and he can’t get up! Will you join Christ in his work of redeeming lost humanity for the glory of God?

Thank you so much for all your help and prayers as we move forward to Launch the Next Generation Missionary.

CWB Reunion in Atlanta | Trek-X Final Prep

We just returned from a round of summer camps which were simply amazing! The students we’ve led in worship this summer have had a different intensity in them that I’ve not seen in years past. They are really eager to connect with God in worship, but they also want to do something with the fire that is fueled through worship. A great sign of God’s activity in our culture.

During this last camp in PCB, FL I was also able to lead several breakout sessions on missions. As I shared our vision & strategy for reaching the poor & marginalized with each round of students, I could literally see their eyes light up with desire to engage the world with the Gospel. That was huge. Too often we are satisfied with gathering to sing songs that fail to produce any fruit in our lives. However, it seems as though this new generation of students is determined to move beyond the music and into ACTION! Sort of reminds me of a Bible verse in James that says “faith without deeds is dead”. (James 2:20) I love it. God is truly stirring in this generation for tremendous impact, and I want to be right in the middle of it.

We will finish our last camp at FBC Atlanta on July 28-Aug 1, which will be an original CWB reunion event. Since Wes & Tamara Banks are home from Romania, and since Glenn Smith, Chris Wang, and Taylor Martin all live in Atlanta, we thought it would be a great idea to gather again as the original CWB & do this event. This will be fun. Having Wang on the drums, Glenndolyn on bass, Wes on the percs, and Taylor on lead will be a truly wonderful worship reunion. So many of the intimate moments we’ve shared on the stage together have helped to shape who we are today. We look forward to adding this one to our journey as well.

Between now and then, we are working long days to get ready for our Trek-X orientation weekend. Please pray for us as we make the final preparations. As students and parents prepare to arrive in Nashville on August 14th for our inaugural year of Trek-X, we are busy collecting furniture for their condos, designing our line of Trek-X gear, putting the final touches on the Disicpleship Plan, and securing our adjunct faculty of experts who will help us pour the right spiritual DNA into each student. We will post our list of faculty members in the next blog. (They include people like Dr. Jay Strack, Mel Blackaby, Brent Crowe, Wade Morris, Adam Robinson, Dr. Alvin Reid, etc.)

If you still want to donate to help us furnish their condos, please donate online at:

Trek-X: It's Time To Engage The World!

As we move through the busy summer leading worship for camps and dipping in and out of several countries with student mission teams who work to share the Gospel among the poor & marginalized, we are feverishly meeting & planning for the arrival of our first wave of Trek-X students this August. Hailing from Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Texas, this first wave of students will move to Nashville to begin a 4-year journey that will change their lives - and the world - FOREVER!

For those of you who are still wondering what Trek-X is, here is what it involves and a few ways I describe it. “Trek” means journey. The letter “X” is the Greek letter in the New Testament that represents Christ. So, Trek-X is a journey with Christ, much like the disciples had with Jesus. Trek-X students will do 3 things. . .

COLLEGE - students complete their bachelor’s/master’s/seminary degree at the online university of their

choice (Christian or Secular). No more putting missions on hold until after college.

DISCIPLESHIP - students are discipled in their spiritual disciplines, theology, leadership, worldview, & missions

MISSIONS - students will travel the world sharing their faith & planting house-churches among the poor &

marginalized on 5 continents (2 years in Nashville, TN / 2 years overseas)

It’s an elite 4-year journey that trains serious Christ-followers to live missionally, for the rest of their lives

It’s an alternative learning community for students who are ready to engage their world...NOW!

It’s a training platform to launch students to every continent as missionaries, including the US

It’s special forces training for the next generation of student missionaries

It will redefine biblical Christianity, true community, and global purpose to the next generation

It removes all barriers to engaging the world after high school

It mobilizes an army of highly trained, deeply discipled, theologically grounded leaders into the world

Biblically, every believer is called & appointed by Christ to career missions at the point of salvation. Jesus, said, “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Mt. 4:19). If you’re truly following, you’re fishing. This means we have not taught “calling” correctly in our churches for centuries. We treat some as though they are to be the pastors, preachers, teachers, evangelists, etc and everyone else should just go get a job and be salt and light in the world. That is heresy and does violence to the biblical text.

We are all ministers of the Gospel, ambassadors of Christ to the nations, and a kingdom of priests. We don’t GO to a priest, we HAVE a high priest (Christ), and He has made us a kingdom of priests (1 Peter 2:9). Therefore, we are challenging this millennial generation to rethink their life by asking themselves this one question: “What’s my God-given global purpose, or am I just trying to get the right degree that will land the right job that will earn me a lot money, so I can have a comfortable American life”? The prince of preachers and great English theologian, Charles Spurgeon, said, “As a believer, you’re either a missionary or an imposter!”

All believers are full-time missionaries according to the Bible, but most of us aren’t trained to do anything more than show up to entertaining church events where the hired pros on stage preach to the masses. It’s time to raise up a generation that will be personally discipled by Godly men and women, skilled in sharing their faith, trained to plant the Gospel in the pagan pockets of our cultures around the world, and confident that their God-given purpose is to make disciples of all nations (here in the US and abroad), not just to grow up and get a job.

So, if any of this rings a bell for you or for someone you know, pass it on. THIS IS NOT JUST FOR STUDENTS WHO FEEL CALLED TO MINISTRY OR MISSIONS. . .remember, WE’RE ALL CALLED. This is for all students who are serious about their walk with Christ and want to be trained & engaged NOW! Just imagine this. . .

At the age of 21, 23, 25 you’ve completed your degree online

You’ve been personally discipled by godly men and women

You’ve lived in another country for two years

You’ve learned another language and another culture

You’ve experienced culture shock, yet enjoyed the community of a close-knit team serving with you

You’ve memorized thousands of passages of scripture

You’ve studied every single book in the bible, and memorized some of them entirely

You’ve mastered a “Plant & Fish” strategy of sharing your faith and shared the Gospel on several continents

You’ve started Bible studies that became house-churches, and taught new believers to do the same

You’ve gelled with a team of students throughout your 4-year journey and made friends for life

You’ve experienced graduation in Jerusalem and have been commissioned to live as a missionary for life,

regardless of your occupation or where you might live

NOW THAT’S “TREK-X”!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHO CAN SAY THAT? I can’t even say that. We’re talking about something new, something radical, something unbelievable, something that could be world shattering...but something that should be normal among the Christian community. I challenge you to RETHINK your life, ask hard questions, find your God-given purpose, choose to live for something bigger than money or yourself, get alone with God and seek His direction for your life, for your students, and for your family. We can not sit back any longer and fiddle around with our poorly attended church activities, thinking that a full room means success. We must train this next generation as warriors who will ENGAGE the world. . .NOW!
