WE ARE FINALLY HERE!
As I write this, our Trek-X students are packing their final items into suitcases and loading their cars to begin their journey to Nashville. Some are already on the way from far away places, and more will arrive in the morning. Our staff will arrive at my house tonight for a pre-orientation party & prayer time for Trek-X. Everything is done. We are ready. And we can’t wait to have our Trek-X students here.
Trek-X has been something that has been on my heart since 2006 when we first began receiving emails & FaceBook messages from students saying that they wanted more from life than just going to college and getting a job. The mission trips they had served on had truly impacted their lives, wetting their appetites for a greater purpose. Something bigger than themselves. Something worth their entire life. They had experienced what we call a “collision”. It happens when the American dream that we’ve all grown up with collides with the Kingdom dream of Christ, awakening us to a higher call. Our God given global purpose. It’s like finding a whole new world that we hungered for, but never knew existed.
The bombardment of emails from these students who wanted to engage the world NOW, was overwhelming and exciting at the same time. I began praying immediately, asking God what He was doing in this generation, and what His plan was for mobilizing them. We don’t need another program, and I didn’t want to just dream something up for them to do...which would be easy for me since I’m a dreamer.
Anyway, Trek-X was His answer to that prayer. He said...”Remove all the barriers for this generation to engage with me NOW. No more waiting. The time is NOW! Allow them to complete their COLLEGE, then DISCIPLE them the way I discipled my twelve, and take them all over the world on MISSION to plant the Gospel among the poor & marginalized....all at the same time”. So that’s what we’re doing. And I can’t believe it’s finally here.
By the way, applications from students to begin Trek-X in 2011 are already coming in. That’s really exciting. However, we will only have 32 spots available (16 guys/16 girls), and some of those are already taken. So, help us continue to spread the word, and if you’re a student interested in Trek-X...don’t wait too long to apply. You can apply as early as your junior year in high school.
I want to say thank you to everyone who gave funds or donated furniture for the students’ condos. (Friends from TX, TN, FL, MS, GA, and AL). Thanks to Chris Thomas & Reed Jones for loading up furniture from all our friends in Aberdeen, MS and delivering it to us in Nashville. You guys rock! Thanks to my wife, Christy, who has worked tirelessly to host people in our home, plan & order the meals for this orientation weekend, arrange the student welcome packets, homeschool Caroline, cook daily meals, and still run our home with precision...all at the same time. You are SuperWoman!
Finally, as we begin this inaugural year of Trek-X, please commit to pray with us that the Holy Spirit will guide our steps, provide protection as we travel the world sharing the Gospel, and empower us with energy & clarity to pour the right spiritual DNA into each student.
Thank you so much for all your help and prayers as we move forward to Launch the Next Generation Missionary.
Until Every Nation Knows! (Hab. 1:5)
